Introduction to Permaculture

with Hamish Evans of Middle Ground Growers

Friday 22 March 2024

10am - 4pm (arrive at 9.30 for coffee/tea)

£100

Group Size - 10 people

Permaculture is an ecological design system often associated with gardening and agriculture but can be used in a much broader sense as a guiding principle for life.   It’s inspired by the inherently sustainable ecosystems of the natural world and pays close attention to finding the most efficient use of precious resources, whether that’s water, energy or your own time and money.

In this overview, Hamish Evans will spend the morning giving an introduction to permaculture and it’s main principles and ethics before going on to discuss how you might apply these to your own life and gardening practices.

After lunch we will head outside  to see how Alison uses some of these ideas in practice in the garden at Damson Farm. Permaculture is a huge subject so this day will only be able to give you an overview but will be ideal if you are curious to know a little more or are considering whether to take a Permaculture Design Certificate.  We will provide you with a list of resources should you wish to do further study.

Hamish Evans is Head Grower at Middle Ground Growers,  and, along with three others,  has set up Weston Spring Farm, a new ecological farm in Bath designed with permaculture principles.  He has worked on permaculture projects around the world from New Zealand to Palestine.  He lives on a solar powered boat and is deeply committed to land regeneration and growing food for his community.

Lunch

Alison will prepare a simple vegetarian lunch including produce from the garden. We will round up the day with tea and cake. If you have any specific dietary requests do let us know on the booking form.

What to Bring

Check the weather forecast before you travel and ensure you bring appropriate clothing, whether that’s waterproofs or sun hats, or possibly both!  You may wish to bring a notebook, camera and water bottle.

Getting Here

Directions will be emailed to you a couple of weeks before the workshop. Use Damson Farm rather than the postcode on Google Maps.

Cancellation policy

As a small business it’s not sustainable to offer refunds. However if you need to cancel your place up to 28 days before the event you will be offered a credit towards another workshop.   After that time, the offer only applies if we’ve been able to re-sell the place. It’s not possible to promote cancelled places for re-sale less than 4 days before the event.
