Imagine a garden that’s not only beautiful and rich in wildlife but that you can eat too.  This workshop aims to give you inspiration and confidence to create an edible garden that’s uniquely yours, that is planned to provide just what you need and fits the amount of time you have available to spend on it and is kind to the environment.  It’s easy for these things to fall out of balance and to feel disheartened about the beans that remain unpicked or the kale that has been shredded by pigeons.  I can’t promise these things won’t happen but with careful planning and a different mindset they might either be avoided or you won’t mind so much if they do.

We will begin by looking at many different styles of gardens to expand the notion of what an edible garden might look like and how it could function.  Hopefully this will inspire you with a sense of the breadth of possibilities.   We will then discuss philosophies and principles, to hone down on what type of garden might be the right fit for your own needs and desires.   After lunch we’ll head out into the garden and talk about more practical issues such as paths, raised beds, supporting structures, organic management, soil health, compost bins, greenhouses.   We can also touch on permaculture and forest gardening if anyone is interested.

We’ll round up with tea and cake and I’ll be happy to answer any questions you still have about your own garden at the end of the day.  The group will be limited to six people so that we have time to discuss each of your individual situations should you want to.

Lunch

I will be making a vegetarian lunch with produce from the garden.   If you have any specific dietary requests do let me know on the booking form.

What to Bring

We will be spending part of the day outdoors in the garden so you might want to wear sturdy shoes or boots and bring waterproofs.  You may wish to bring a notebook and camera.

Cancellation policy

A full refund will be given if you need to cancel your place up to 21 days before the event.  If we’re able to re-sell your place after that time you will be offered a place on another workshop of your choice or a 75% refund.
